There are two ways to travel between Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay. And, the same applies if you are traveling in the opposite direction that is Montevideo to Buenos Aires

  1. The faster and costlier way is a direct 2.5 hour direct ferry between Buenos Aires and Montevideo (and vice versa). It costs ARS $ 1500 (~US$ 95)
  2. The cheaper and slightly longer 4.5-5 hour bus-ferry combo. The bus ferry combo contains bus travel between Colonia, Uruguay and Montevideo (vice versa), and a ferry between Colonia and Buenos Aires (vice versa). Colonia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site so the bus-ferry combo actually gives you an opportunity to stroll through the quaint cobblestone streets of Colonia.

IMPORTANT:¬ If you want to spend time in Colonia then make separate bookings for the Colonia-Montevideo bus leg and Buenos Aires-Colonia ferry leg.

There are three companies that ply this route. Even though the price contains a $ sign, it is not in US dollar. It is either Argentinean Peso (ARS $) or Uruguayan Peso (UY $) . It should say which peso on the page. The prices mentioned below are the cheapest available prices. For certain departure times the price could be slightly higher than mentioned here.
